MA Ensemble is an experiment in improvisation and courageous collaboration; founded in 2018 at Oakland’s Active Music Series. We created a hybrid telematic performance with Ione from Kingston, NY and performed spontaneously composed music together during sever fires with Lisa Harris, Amy Reed, gabby fluke-mogul, Biggi Vinkeloe, and Tom Bickley. Continuing onward, MA Ensemble is a community of inter-generational artists with rich and varying creative practices, in relationship with their instrument(s) and a seemingly limitless reach through time and space sharing the story ing of fearless and supportive creative communities. In 2023, we premiered the first and only wholly telematic performance of Pauline Oliveros’ Arctic Air with IONE via JackTrip technology for the NowNet Arts Conference. In 2019, with the support of Vorspiel Festival, we organized a hybrid telematic performance between Berlin artists at the Willow’s Nest and Oakland Artists at the California Jazzconservancy.
